ANIOCHA NORTH LEADERS PASS VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN NED NWOKO, EMEKA NWAOBI FOR GOOD REPRESENTATION.

Political leaders of Aniocha North local government area of Delta State have eulogized two prominent indigenes, Senator Ned Nwoko and Hon. Emeka Nwaobi over their immense contributions to good governance.

Rising from a meeting at Issele-Uku, the political leaders said Aniocha people were extremely proud of Senator Nwoko representing Delta North at the National Assembly and Hon. Nwaobi, representing Aniocha North constituency at the state House of Assembly for their impact in the legislatures.

They described Senator Nwoko as one of the strongest voices in the Nigerian Senate and hailed Hon. Nwaobi who is the majority leader of the State Assembly for standing excellent in promoting the yearnings of Aniocha North in Delta.

The meeting attended by former Deputy Governor, Chief Benjamin Elue, matriarch of Delta politics, Chief Nkem Okwuofu, Chief Mrs Josephine Kachikwu,
Commissioner for information, Dr. Ifeanyi Osuoza, PDP Chairman of the local government, Hon. Charles Ochei, former chairman of the council, among other leaders, urged Senator Nwoko and Hon. Nwaobi to remain exemplary in service.

After sustained deliberations, the Aniocha North leaders unanimously passed a vote of tacit confidence in Senator Nwoko and Hon. Nwaobi, following a motion by pioneer sole administrator of the council, Sir Dan Okenyi, supported by party stalwart, Chief UZ Idabor.

Senator Nwoko had championed the aspirations of Delta North (Anioma) though outstanding efforts on Ogwashi Uku dam project, Okpai Power generating system, multiple manpower development programmes, attraction of N3.5 billion projects to Delta North in the 2024 national Appropriation among other key milestones as a senator.

Hon Nwaobi, as state lawmaker, had initiated several constituency projects like roads, schools, hospitals and empowerment programmes for the people of Aniocha North, and also distinguished himself as a pillar of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori administration, through his office as majority leader of DTHA.

SENATOR NED NWOKO’S COMMITMENT TO NDOKWA NATION

Senator Prince Ned Munir Nwoko, the distinguished representative of Delta North senatorial district, evidently fosters a trusting and highly supportive relationship with his constituents. However, one cannot help but notice his distinctive interest and unwavering commitment to the Ndokwa Nation.

The Ndokwa Nation, endowed with notable oil and gas reserves, plays a pivotal role in the nation’s economy. In fact, the Ndokwa/Ukwuani constituency stands as the largest crude oil and gas hub in Africa. One might presume that a people blessed with such abundance would enjoy all the comforts of life and more. However, the reality is quite the opposite.

During the last senatorial campaign, Prince Ned Nwoko, accompanied by his campaign team, traversed the entirety of the Ndokwa area. What he encountered brought him to tears – communities living in squalor, enduring profound poverty and suffering. These were the same people responsible for producing the cornerstone of the nation’s economy – crude oil and gas. Yet, they lacked basic amenities such as electricity, good roads, standard hospitals, well-equipped schools (both primary and tertiary), clean water, affordable housing, and other essentials that could enhance their quality of life. The area was glaringly marked by signs of underdevelopment, a stark contrast to its resource wealth.

Witnessing their plight and frustration firsthand, Ned Nwoko made a solemn promise to champion the cause of the Ndokwa nation. He vowed to ensure they received the recognition and benefits they rightfully deserved from the federal government, should he emerge victorious in the election and earn the people’s mandate.

True to his word, he emerged victorious and has since remained steadfast in fulfilling his promise.

Whilst leading the fight against crude oil and gas theft in the Niger Delta, Senator Ned Nwoko has also urged the federal government to legalize artisanal refining and provide full support to local refiners whose activities are currently deemed illegal. Some locals, driven by frustration and poverty, siphon crude oil and utilize rudimentary techniques to refine it. The senator, who unequivocally condemns crude oil theft in any form, also highlighted that legalizing artisanal refining would enable these locals to produce more refined products at affordable rates for citizens.

At the core of his push to legalize artisanal refining lies his concern for his people, particularly the Ndokwa nation, aiming to empower them to have direct earnings and control over their liquid gold.

Furthermore, Senator Ned Nwoko’s engagements with the Ministry of Power and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) regarding the distribution of electricity from the Okpai Independent Power Plant to host communities underscores his dedication to fulfilling his promise to the people.

The senator has never asserted claims to initiating or attracting the OIPP project. However, upon assuming office, it is incumbent upon a representative not only to attract and initiate new projects but also to ensure and facilitate the completion of existing projects in his constituency. The approval for the distribution of 100 megawatts of electricity from the Okpai Independent Power Plant to host communities was granted about 19 years ago; however, there have been unexplained delays in executing this crucial project.

As a federal government project, Senator Ned Nwoko recognized the importance of hearing the reasons for the delay directly from the authorities. He convened a meeting with the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and the Managing Director/CEO of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Sule Ahmed Abdulaziz, to inquire about the unexplained delays in executing these crucial projects. The Ministry and Agency cited the lack of funds as the primary obstacle to project execution, stressing the necessity of financial support from the National Assembly to implement the Senate’s resolutions on the motion raised by Senator Ned Nwoko regarding the issue.

In response, Senator Nwoko pledged to expedite the approval of funds for the project upon receiving a detailed budget analysis from the ministry/agency. This mutual agreement and understanding prompted the ministry to mobilize the contractor back to the site. According to the information personally conveyed by the minister to Senator Ned Nwoko, the contractor and workers are currently mobilizing back to the site.

The Senator’s efforts didn’t end there. While the OIPP is a federal government project that must be funded by the federal government, he is also advocating for the possibility of state government financing the project and requesting a refund from the FG. During his recent visit, he discussed this with the state Governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, who agreed to consider funding the completion of the OIPP project and making a request for the federal government to refund the state.

Additionally, there is another power plant in Sapele, about which the Minister of Power shared necessary information with Senator Ned, and the distinguished Senator also discussed it with the Governor. With both power plants functioning as they should, Delta State as a whole will be properly electrified.

Senator Ned Nwoko is precisely executing what he should to ensure the success of distributing 100 megawatts of electricity from the Okpai Independent Power Plant, which has been delayed for years. He has also made it known that he will collaborate with all concerned parties to make this step down happen this year. It is his responsibility to achieve this, and he is clearly not in competition with anyone or any group, nor is he seeking self-glorification. His focus, evident in his actions, is to ensure that the project is actualized as soon as possible. His door is open to anybody or any group that may have effective opinions or information about the project. Again, this is another recorded success in progress for the people.

What about the idea of having the prestigious Nigerian Defence Academy in Ndokwa? Senator Ned Nwoko has reaffirmed his commitment to this promise by championing a bill for the establishment of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in Kwale. Currently, the sole NDA is situated in Kaduna state. Senator Nwoko has underscored the significance of establishing another NDA to cater to the southern region of Nigeria. His bill seeking the establishment of one in Kwale has successfully cleared its first reading in the Senate, marking yet another promising stride for the people.

The Ndokwa region, by virtue of its geographical location, grapples with the recurring challenge of flooding. This predicament is further exacerbated by the inadequate road infrastructure. During his tour, Prince Ned Nwoko personally witnessed the devastating impact of these issues. In response, he has emphasized the critical need for the construction of a coastal road in the Oko and Ndokwa axis to mitigate the persistent flooding from the River Niger.

The Senate has recognized the imperative of dredging the River Niger and River Benue to tackle this challenge effectively. The proposed coastal road, stretching from Ebu, Oko, Okpai, Aboh, down to Patani, will incorporate elevation and embankment measures to prevent flooding. The road will complement the existing coastal road project awarded by the President, linking Lagos, Delta, and Akwa-Ibom states.

The Ndokwa axis also grapples with environmental degradation due to gas flaring and oil spillage resulting from the operations of oil companies. While actively combating oil spillage through his environmental team, Senator Ned Nwoko has also submitted a motion to address the issue of gas flaring in the area. The motion, titled “Urgent Need to Stop Gas Flaring and Enforce Anti-Gas Flaring Regulations in Ndokwa Land and the Niger Delta Region,” has been submitted for listing.

It is needless to mention that in the 2024 appropriation, diverse projects were strategically placed in the axis. This acknowledgment does not diminish the Senator’s commitment to other areas within his senatorial district. However, those with an unwavering conscience will concur with the Senator that the Ndokwa nation has endured marginalization for far too long and warrants special attention.

ANIOMA YOUTHS MEETS, PASS CONFIDENCE VOTE IN SENATOR NED NWOKO

The gale of endorsement of Senator Ned Nwoko’s performance at the National Assembly has continued with a resounding vote of confidence by Youths from Delta North Senatorial District.

Thousands of youths drawn from the 9 local government areas of Delta North, popularly called Anioma, gathered at Idumuje-Ugboko country home of Prince Ned Nwoko where they expressly hailed his stint so far at the senate and proclaimed that the Senator earned their admiration for exemplary stewardship.

In an unanimous motion from Emmanuel Zelinjo, Aniocha North seconded by Aduye Lucky-Elite Amechi, Aniocha South, the youths across all Delta North local government areas said they acknowledged the achievements of Senator Nwoko on human capital development and provision of social infrastructure in Anioma land .

Barely a week ago, Anioma political leaders had at a Town Hall meeting at Asaba commended Senator Nwoko for his excellent commitment to duty while Delta North monarchs, followed by women group from the senatorial district passed a vote of confidence in him.

The latest acclamation by Anioma youths attracted representatives of the youths from Aniocha North, Aniocha South, Oshimili North, Oshimili South, Ika South, Ika North East, Ndokwa West, Ndokwa East and Ukwuani.

Addressing the youths, Senator Ned Nwoko who welcomed them in company of his wife, Regina Danieis Nwoko, said the support of the youths was a morale booster.

He said he is in the senate not just to “make laws for the good governance of the Nation” but also to engender lasting socio -economic development.

According to the senator:

“ I came prepared to serve because I understand the problems and challenges of the people. Youths are very important to me. I love your energy, creativity and innovation. Every young person in Anioma will be encouraged to excel.

“ I have numerous bills for the betterment of the society. Bills on firearms, rent control, citing of Nigerian Defense Academy in Kwale and so on are all very significant.

“Moreover, I have done much towards the completion of Okpai electricity project, Ogwashi Uku dam and construction of strategic road network in Delta North.

“I am interested in the well being of my people. As long as you live in Anioma, I represent you. Let me inform you that I just secured the release of some persons arrested by security agents, for ownership of gun factory. The factory is termed illegal but I believe that they should be encouraged to regularize their operations. Their ingenuity can be channeled to good use towards industrial revolution”

Senator Ned Nwoko also told the gathering of Anioma youths that he established the first sports university in sub Saharan Africa to promote education and sporting excellence, as his contribution to the development of Anioma, Delta and Nigeria.

The Senator said the Sports university is in partnership with over 5 foreign universities in Europe and other parts of the world in the area of scholarship and urged the youths to embrace the opportunities offered to fulfill their destinies.

ANIOMA MONARCHS PASS VOTE OF CONFIDENCE IN SEN. NED NWOKO FOR EFFECTIVE REPRESENTATION

Anioma Traditional Rulers, comprising of Monarchs from the Delta North Senatorial District have passed a vote of implicit confidence in the Senator representing Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly in Abuja, Senator Prince Ned Nwoko.

This motion was moved by the Traditional Ruler of Ukala Okpunor Kingdom, HRM Obi Clement Ifeanyi Ejiofor and was unanimously endorsed by others during the unveiling of the Senator’s Office in Asaba.

This followed a Thank You Town Hall Meeting with Delta North leaders and people at Orchid Hotel, Asaba.

The Traditional Rulers said Senator Nwoko has recorded unprecedented achievements throuh important bills, motions and empowermenents all dedicated to the development of Anioma, Delta and Nigeria in general.

The Monarchs also gave assurance that they had adopted Ned Nwoko a sole senatorial candidate ahead of the round of elections.

Responding, an elected Senator Nwoko appreciated the Traditional Rulers and the people of Delta North for their usual and unalloyed support.

He promised to attract more dividends of democracy to the people of Anioma Nation for their trust in his leadership.

He assured of better days and said the youths and women are integral in his constituency blueprint for the next phase of his constituency projects.

Political leaders and people of Delta North had earlier at the Town hall meeting commended Senator Ned Nwoko for his exemplary accomplishments at the National Assembly since he was elected senator in 2023.

*SENATOR NED NWOKO: 7 MONTHS OF POWER AND IMPACT

Anioma brotherhood was not my main influence for rallying Prince Ned Nwoko to the senate.

His senatorial quest to me was much more than fidelity to a common ancestral brood. It was far beyond Idumuje solidarity.

As we say in Warri, I supported this boss/leader with my “full chest” for a catch of salient reasons:

The characteristics of Prince Ned Nwoko are scarce in the Nigerian market.

Nigeria’s wealthy men are seldom humble.
The typical highly placed politician here is not sensitive.
Most powerful and privileged Nigerians have no mercy.

For a mortal susceptible to flaws, this is not an anthology of Ned Nwoko’s sainthood. But you cannot encounter the famous Idumuje-Ugboko man without being profoundly impacted by his humanity.

Those who know Ned as he is fondly called, beyond public knowledge of his trademark snow white “agbada”, Anioma red cap, beautiful wives, exotic motors and mansions, will never fail to notice his easy lifestyle, marked by infectious joviality and sacrificial kindness.

Whether as entrepreneur, international lawyer, founder of first sports university in sub Saharan Africa, Arts and Tourism connoisseur, anti-Malaria environmentalist or the much advertised Antarctica explorer, Ned Nwoko has done much to change the world.

When he headed to the Nigerian senate in June, 2023, to represent Delta North at the National Assembly, he went prepared.

Seven months as Senator, Prince Ned Nwoko is making his Anioma constituents smile exuding colourful stand on the red chambers, addressing profound issues with penetrating insight and spell-binding charisma.

Sen. Ned Nwoko
His impact are far beyond political rhetoric.

Last month, Senator Nwoko initiated the empowerment of 260 youths and women in a skills acquisition programme at Asaba, the capital of Delta and heartland of Anioma. Each beneficiary got a sum of #150,000, in a fulfilling poverty alleviation and wealth creation scheme.

He is set to give succour to over 1,000 people of Delta North senatorial district through direct implementation of conditional cash transfer of #50,000 each, under federal government’s social welfare. More are coming.

Today, he is one of the most quoted Senators of the 10th Assembly, leading in the articulation of the highest motions on the floor, with hyper active advocacy.

These include motions and views on sanctions over crude oil theft by dubious economic saboteurs, rehabilitation of Asaba-Benin road and East-West expressway, Gas flaring and compensation, security surveillance against criminal kidnappers terrorizing the people, peaceful resolution of IPOB and Boko Haram insurgency, non-military intervention in independent nations and within the country as well as repatriations against transatlantic slave trade and colonialism.

At NASS, Senator Nwoko is a potent voice on critical national issues like degradation, health, employment, education, and infrastructural needs of Nigerians.

The Senator recently championed a bill on Voting Rights for Nigerians in the Diaspora as well as permanent seats in both chambers of the National Assembly, House of Representatives and senate.

This is one of the most patriotic moves in history by any Nigerian given the fact that it would make Africa’s largest democracy, allow its huge Diaspora population – millions of citizens to vote in her national elections. The Diasporic Nigerians have over the years been deprived of the opportunity to contribute to the political leadership process despite their monumental contributions to the economy.

On the 28th of November 2023, Senator Nwoko came up with a Bill for the Establishment of Waste Management and Malaria Eradication Agency. The proposed bill consummates the eselfless humanitarian efforts of Prince Nwoko, as a pioneering Environmentalist.

Even as a first timer at the Nigerian senate, the distinguished ranks among the most respected. He is a member of 16 strategic committees, an unprecedented trust, in recognition of the tremendous capacity of one man.

He is the vice chairman of the senate committee on Environment, with membership in other committees. They include NDDC, NEPAD, TETFUND, Gas, Upstream Petroleum, Works, Finance, Defence, Police, Drugs and Narcotics, Communications, State and Local Governments, Primary Health Care Development and Disease Control, Constitutional Amendment, Anti-corruption and Economic crimes, Youth and Sports.

Senator Nwoko’s place in the senate so far is phenomenal.

Apart from the golden era of late Senator Nosike Ikpo in the second republic and the eventful sojourn of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa from 2011 to 2015 when history made him the first Anioma to govern Delta, no other senator from Delta North had made impressive showing like Ned Nwoko. An exemplary enigma.

Today he is offering excellent representation to Aniima people, with integrity and honour, to eclipse the embarrassing scandals and perennial ridicule that attended the immediate ugly past.

Senator Ned Nwoko has restored the lost glory of Anioma land. The people are happy from all quarters. Yet, it is just Morning at the senate.

With Anioma illustrious Senator, a beautiful future beckons to the people.

CLARK’S GIANT CAKE FOR SHERIFF.NORBERT CHIAZOR….

Chief Edwin Clark. Love him or hate him, the voice of the most prominent Niger Delta elder reverberates to seductive crescendo.

Irrepressible in character, the coos of E.K. Clark may not always ring controversial. There are times, he rises to the occasion leaving on his trail, approving applauses.

The wise sayings of the old are vital for social good. The moral compass to cheer or chastise a beguiled melleu.

The Governor of Delta, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori got a generous letter from the Ijaw -born elder statesman

“My dear son, you have started well”, Clark, Convener of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), wrote to Sheriff over the N78 billion contract recently awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Limited to transform Delta commercial artery – Warri.

Clark, Second Republic Senator and former Federal Minister of Information was effusive in the expression of joy and appreciation to the governor:” On behalf of the people of Warri and elders of Warri referred to as ‘WARRI BOYS’, for what he termed,” the great plan” for the rehabilitation and urban renewal of “our hometown, Warri/Effurun”

Sheriff is festooned with garlands by Clark, particularly for engaging reputable construction giant, Julius Berger. This according to the sage portrays sincerity of purpose as pledged in his inaugural gubernatorial speech to give special attention to the famed oil city.

The Niger Delta leader overly shared his optimism that Oborevwori “will extend this pattern to other major towns in the state” in executing his development template- M.O.R.E. agenda.

Reading Clark’s letter, the most casual observer would decode it as shocking. For a man sceptical of Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa’s backing of Oborevwori as successor, the embrace is daintily instructive.

Strikingly, Clark may appear in some quarters as a poker of controversies, who loves to fish in troubled waters to grow his ego, but he is neither a frivolous undertaker nor an accustomed praise singer.

He never dodges from voicing perspectives on critical issues, whether opinionated or altruistic. He bares his mind. Pungent and scarcely patronizing.

Clark once described Okowa as a “good product” while on seat, in one of his documented assessment of the immediate past governor. But the old man also recently gave Okowa rough tackles.

At other times, he has had a mixed grill of chummy and stormy lassoing with Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan as well as Chief James Ibori during their tenures as Governor of the state.

Vintage E .K Clark. An icon and iconoclast.

Now that Sheriff is Pa Clark’s melodious song, let Delta rejoice. The elder statesman has not lied. He spoke truth to power and the people.

It is trite to say Clark is right. Because the footsteps of Oborevwori, so far, are elegant. He is not faking anything. He is firm. Fastidious in fidelity. Focused on Delta project. He is working well and doing well. An egoless yet assertive governor is emerging.

From Delta South to Delta Central, cascading to Delta North, the governor is on the move; laying a solid foundation. A greater Delta is on the horizon. Visible.

The even-handed motive of the new Sheriff in town, makes Clark’s emotive letter so credible.

Kudos to Clark. Carry go Sheriff.

DELTA’S PATH TO PROSPERITY: A COMMUNIQUE OF GRATITUDE AND COMMITMENT TO PROGRESS

Representing the Nine LGA Coordinators and the Ninety Eight Ward Coordinators of Senator Prince Ned Nwoko’s Campaign Organization, we want to express our appreciation to His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oboroweri for his remarkable achievements in his first 100 days in office and the positive impact of his MORE agenda on Delta North and Delta State as a whole.

In the heart of Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oboroweri’s first 100 days in office have brought about a refreshing wave of optimism and progress. His unwavering commitment to the state’s development is evident in significant strides made in infrastructure and human capital development.

Governor Oboroweri embarked on a comprehensive infrastructure overhaul, including commissioning landmark projects initiated by his predecessor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa. Notably, he engaged Julius Berger Nigerian PLC for unprecedented road construction projects across the state.

One standout moment during his early days in office was his visit to Warri, Delta’s commercial hub. Here, he inspected ongoing stormwater projects and addressed a long-standing issue – the lack of electricity for residents of 1st Marine Gate. His swift action in delivering a new transformer earned him immense gratitude from the Warri community.

Governor Oboroweri also displayed a strong commitment to environmental responsibility by ordering the demolition of buildings along waterways. He emphasized the importance of maintaining free water flow, a practice aligned with global standards.

Efforts to enhance transportation and reduce traffic congestion extended to the famous Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) junction in Effurun, where a reconstruction project was initiated.

In the capital city of Asaba, Governor Oboroweri has set his sights on further transformation. Projects included the State High Court complex, flood control measures on Madonna College Road, Okpanam, and drainage improvements at Koka through Agbalusia-Ngele Street to Federal Technical College Asaba.

Governor Oboroweri’s responsiveness in human capital development is evident in his approval of the payment of promotion arrears totaling five billion naira to Delta state workers.

So far, Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, just like his iconic predecessor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, signifies a promising future for Delta, where progress is the order of the day.

We, also, earnestly extend our heartfelt commendation to Senator Prince Ned Nwoko (Odogwu Anioma), the amiable representative of Delta North Senatorial District. His remarkable contributions during the election campaigns showcased his dedication to the PDP’s victory.

During the campaign trail, Senator Ned Nwoko and his graceful actress wife, Mrs. Regina Daniels-Nwoko, made stunning entrances that completely transformed the face of campaign in Anioma. They went to every political ward across the Delta North Senatorial District, ensuring a resounding victory for the PDP.

The PDP Campaign Council in the nine LGAs of Delta North Senatorial District also received generous support from Senator Ned Nwoko, resulting in a well-coordinated campaign effort and a landslide victory for the party in the 2023 General Elections.

Senator Ned Nwoko extended his campaign outreach to major public tertiary institutions in the district, where he spent over N50 million in each institution, mobilizing the student community to support PDP candidates.

In a bid to secure a landslide victory, Senator Ned Nwoko and his team campaigned even in strongholds of the opposition, leaving no stone unturned.

He engaged with various groups, including youth, women, civil society, religious, and labor unions, reinforcing the PDP’s overwhelming victory.

Notably, Senator Ned Nwoko sought the support of Delta North Traditional Rulers, engaging them at Owa-Oyibo and the Asagba of Asaba’s palace.

Even after winning the Delta North Senatorial elections, Senator Ned Nwoko remained committed to supporting PDP House of Assembly candidates in their respective LGAs, emphasizing the importance of voting for PDP candidates in the Presidential and Governorship elections.

In the 10th Senate, Senator Ned Nwoko has excelled through his active participation in debates and the presentation of motions and bills aimed at improving the nation’s economy.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Senator Ned Nwoko’s unwavering commitment to the PDP at both the state and national levels led to their recent appointments as Deputy Chairman and Protocol Committee head, respectively, in the PDP Campaign Council for the Bayelsa Governorship Elections.

We call on these prominent leaders to collaborate in the administration and governance of the state to fulfill the PDP’s campaign promises and sustain development.

We congratulate Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and PDP candidates from Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts on their well-deserved victory at the Tribunal. Deltans eagerly await their final victory at the appeal court.

Finally, we celebrate and commend Dr. Michael Nwoko, affectionately known as “The Political Oshobe,” for his exceptional and invaluable contributions throughout the electioneering process. His unwavering dedication and strategic involvement were pivotal in achieving our collective goals, and for that, we owe him a profound debt of gratitude. Hosting this meeting is just one of the many ways in which he has demonstrated his commitment to our cause.

_COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY SENATOR NED NWOKO LGA AND WARD COORDINATORS AT THE END OF A CRUCIAL MEETING HELD IN IDUMUJE-UGBOKO, ANIOCHA NORTH LGA ON SUNDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER, 2023.

SHERIFF, SPEED & 100TH DAY. Norbert Chiazor.

Predecessor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa did not leave Delta in the hands of an irresponsible governor. That was my sigh when I met governor Sheriff Oberevwori the other day.

Julius Berger is coming to Delta. A festival of project commissioning is blooming. Civil servants are flaunting their allowances. Delta is trending M.O.R.E Agenda is making sense.

100 days…

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori marked his first 100 days in office on September 8, 2023, in the shadows of storied chronology. He is following an archetype.

Franklin D. Roosevelt became the 32nd president of the United States of America on March 4,1933, with a pledge to govern with speed.

On the 100th day of Roosevelt’s presidency, June 12,1933 he coined the term “first 100 days” as a threshold to guage his success.

All presidents of America had followed the Roosevelt model till date. Nigerian presidents since Obasanjo had observed the convention.

Governors and indeed all political leaders of significance commemorate it. Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta state, in keeping with this tradition just marked 100 days of his gubernatorial sojourn, which began May 29, 2023.

As symbolic as 100 days may seem, the rhythm of governance is no where as easy as the sweet ballad of the nice ice cream seller. “After Okowa Na Sheriff”. Yes! But the new Sheriff in town is on a marathon race, so energy-sapping, enervating.

Glory not the Big Heart. Forget about oil. Delta is not that smooth. This state is so rocky to rule. Complex in character, her place, people and politics are combustible.

The philosophy behind Roosevelt’s 100 days as performance chronometer is faulty. Hasty hassle. Fleeting fight. Sound without much volume.

The 100 days benchmark of detemining gain in governance is useless. Three months is too short, too fickle to fire development. Why observe 100 days? A participant – observer is not persuaded.

In the complex maze of power politics in Nigeria, 100 days period ticks off like a twinkle of an eye. Fading like the morning rose.

Nonetheless, counting Delta’s 100 days left one eager. Sheriff is shocking. Spunky on the saddle.

From initial steps of clearing Warri drainages and provision of transformers to light up parts of the oil city in darkness for years, he moved to Asaba and Okpanam axis to commission 29 network of roads and auditoriums of state -owned Dennis Osadebay university, Anwai.

Okowa built the best and biggest state secretariat ever in Nigeria for civil servants, Sheriff put money in their pockets at season of subsidy removal hardship, with the release of #5 billion promotion areas to Delta workers. Following in 100 days was the payment of #40 billion pensions for local government retirees and approval for employment of about 1,000 primary school teachers and other staff.

Mega inter change networks (flyovers) powered by construction giant, Julius Berger are soon to be mounted in the twin cities of Warri and Effurun.

A governor who promised Deltans M.O.R.E, a 4- point development and empowerment agenda had done more in 100 days. Dr. Kingsley Emu, Secretary to the Delta state government, facing a news conference, rolled out a slate of palliatives- #10,000 running for three months for public sector workers, 17,000 bags of 50kg rice and maize across the 25 local government areas to cater for the ordinary people, widows and the vulnerable.

It has been a break-taking timeline inspecting and addressing projects across the three senatorial districts of Delta as Oborevwori forms and firms up his government in 100 days.

It is a pleasant surprise that the governor has committed energy to the completion and commissioning of projects initiated by his predecessor. Political leaders across the country have often abandoned projects inherited based on a certain fear that the previous initiators would take the credit.

Only an incompetent, wicked administrator would jettison viable projects and programmes financed with huge public funds because he is not the author. That is the tragedy of Nigeria. A selfish sense of personal identity that rubbishes good governance and destroys social continuity. Okowa is right with Oborevwori!

Sheriff ‘s body language of continuum is not lack of will but latitude of wisdom. A good leader handles the past, while building a great future.

Pronto. The Delta governor has so far kept a reasonable duty in the 100th day.

Balance is Sheriff ‘s speed. Deltans are following him steady. –

-Norbert Chiazor

BAYELSA: SENATOR NWOKO ATTENDS PDP COUNCIL MEMBERS INAUGURAL MEETING OF NATIONAL CAMPAIGN COUNCIL FOR BAYELSA STATE.
