NED NWOKO: THE RISE OF ANIOMA SENATOR

Enigma! Ned Nwoko reminds me of James Bond. OO7. The charming character created by maestro director, Albert Broccoli.

But there is a sorry difference. The Ned model is fact not some fantasy. Made by God of men, not god of movie.

Ned Nwoko… To discover the man, focus beyond Russian writer Andreevich Krylov’s “ The inquisitive man” and see an Elephant!

Ponder not in fancy about Regina Daniels. Regal Regina. Liala… Women of beauty. Women of Ned. Mute mansions, Rolls Royce, Private Jets and other tangible tools of vanities.

Dig deeper. Decipher the real Ned. Here is the story…

Rising from the high walls of the best British universities to Lincoln’s inn, Prince Ned Nwoko first took the world by storm as the best black lawyer of African descent practicing in England, in the 1990s.

Homeward bound after conquering the global stage, he flew from London to the House of Representatives in 1999 to help chart Nigeria’s democratic future. By the time he bade goodbye to the nation’s legislative green chambers in 2003, he had left indelible footprints etched in honour, strength and service.

He would spend the next two decades breaking new grounds and expanding frontiers of human resilience.

The results are vast. Founder of first sports university in sub Saharan Africa, builder of one of Nigeria’s finest Tourism resorts, Mount Ned, initiator of Nigeria’s economic lifeline -London/Paris loans refund, Antarctica record- breaking explorer, progenitor, Africa Malaria Eradication project, patron of public charities and more.

Today, he waxes stronger in patriotic currency. A freshly baked Senator, bedecked in more radiant charisma. The proceedings of the newly inaugurated 10th senate are coloured by the image of Senator Ned Nwoko adorned in snow white ‘Agbada’, pepper red Anioma cap and full-rim transparent glasses.

But far from sartorial elegance and political rhetoric, the Senator stands as a game changer at the National Assembly.Impeccable.

At a time leadership rot casts a dark shadow on Nigeria and wallops a sick nation to perilous ruins, the Ned persona is making us smile.

Just three months at the senate ,the voice of Prince Ned Nwoko, the senator representing Delta North Senatorial district has been comforting before the nation, soothing our worries and rekindling our hopes. ‘Nigeria go survive’. The beams of the moon will ultimately bring good dreams. The passion of Ned reassures.

He is helping to build a new Nigeria, with a sense of purpose, clarity of advocacy, and affirmative action.
.
On his shoulders lie 16 strategic committees, an unprecedented responsibility and trust, all in recognition of the tremendous capacity of one man.

Leading the charge as vice chairman of senate committee on Environment, Senator Nwoko had been appointed to serve in other significant legislative groups to exercise oversight functions. The committees are NDDC, NEPAD, TETFUND, Gas, Upstream Petroleum, Works, Finance, Defence, Police, Drugs and Narcotics, Communications, State and Local Governments, Primary Health Care Development and Disease Control, Constitutional Amendment, Anti-corruption and Economic crimes, Youth and Sports.

At the international scene, Senator Nwoko is very comfortable dealing with such issues as electoral rights of Nigerians in diaspora and the historical issues of reparation and repatriations against transatlantic slave trade and colonialism.

At the regional level, he is a passionate proponent of non-military intervention in independent nations and within the country, affirming dialogue as a means of peaceful resolution of conflicts especially with separatists like IPOB and Boko Haram.

At the local enclave, he is on top of environmental degradation, health, employment, education, and infrastructural needs.

With Anioma agenda at the National Assembly, Senator Nwoko champions a new dawn of good governance and sustainable development, with Nigeria in focus and global in vision.

Gradually, for Anioma people, the years the locust ate are over. Never to return. The land is smiling without scandals.

‘Odogwu’is not all about big cash and fat cars, but a better Senator from Delta North.

Ned is needed.

-Norbert Chiazor.

DELTA’S PATH TO PROSPERITY: A COMMUNIQUE OF GRATITUDE AND COMMITMENT TO PROGRESS

Representing the Nine LGA Coordinators and the Ninety Eight Ward Coordinators of Senator Prince Ned Nwoko’s Campaign Organization, we want to express our appreciation to His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oboroweri for his remarkable achievements in his first 100 days in office and the positive impact of his MORE agenda on Delta North and Delta State as a whole.

In the heart of Delta State, Governor Sheriff Oboroweri’s first 100 days in office have brought about a refreshing wave of optimism and progress. His unwavering commitment to the state’s development is evident in significant strides made in infrastructure and human capital development.

Governor Oboroweri embarked on a comprehensive infrastructure overhaul, including commissioning landmark projects initiated by his predecessor, Sen. Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa. Notably, he engaged Julius Berger Nigerian PLC for unprecedented road construction projects across the state.

One standout moment during his early days in office was his visit to Warri, Delta’s commercial hub. Here, he inspected ongoing stormwater projects and addressed a long-standing issue – the lack of electricity for residents of 1st Marine Gate. His swift action in delivering a new transformer earned him immense gratitude from the Warri community.

Governor Oboroweri also displayed a strong commitment to environmental responsibility by ordering the demolition of buildings along waterways. He emphasized the importance of maintaining free water flow, a practice aligned with global standards.

Efforts to enhance transportation and reduce traffic congestion extended to the famous Petroleum Training Institute (PTI) junction in Effurun, where a reconstruction project was initiated.

In the capital city of Asaba, Governor Oboroweri has set his sights on further transformation. Projects included the State High Court complex, flood control measures on Madonna College Road, Okpanam, and drainage improvements at Koka through Agbalusia-Ngele Street to Federal Technical College Asaba.

Governor Oboroweri’s responsiveness in human capital development is evident in his approval of the payment of promotion arrears totaling five billion naira to Delta state workers.

So far, Governor Oborevwori’s leadership, just like his iconic predecessor, Senator Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, signifies a promising future for Delta, where progress is the order of the day.

We, also, earnestly extend our heartfelt commendation to Senator Prince Ned Nwoko (Odogwu Anioma), the amiable representative of Delta North Senatorial District. His remarkable contributions during the election campaigns showcased his dedication to the PDP’s victory.

During the campaign trail, Senator Ned Nwoko and his graceful actress wife, Mrs. Regina Daniels-Nwoko, made stunning entrances that completely transformed the face of campaign in Anioma. They went to every political ward across the Delta North Senatorial District, ensuring a resounding victory for the PDP.

The PDP Campaign Council in the nine LGAs of Delta North Senatorial District also received generous support from Senator Ned Nwoko, resulting in a well-coordinated campaign effort and a landslide victory for the party in the 2023 General Elections.

Senator Ned Nwoko extended his campaign outreach to major public tertiary institutions in the district, where he spent over N50 million in each institution, mobilizing the student community to support PDP candidates.

In a bid to secure a landslide victory, Senator Ned Nwoko and his team campaigned even in strongholds of the opposition, leaving no stone unturned.

He engaged with various groups, including youth, women, civil society, religious, and labor unions, reinforcing the PDP’s overwhelming victory.

Notably, Senator Ned Nwoko sought the support of Delta North Traditional Rulers, engaging them at Owa-Oyibo and the Asagba of Asaba’s palace.

Even after winning the Delta North Senatorial elections, Senator Ned Nwoko remained committed to supporting PDP House of Assembly candidates in their respective LGAs, emphasizing the importance of voting for PDP candidates in the Presidential and Governorship elections.

In the 10th Senate, Senator Ned Nwoko has excelled through his active participation in debates and the presentation of motions and bills aimed at improving the nation’s economy.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori and Senator Ned Nwoko’s unwavering commitment to the PDP at both the state and national levels led to their recent appointments as Deputy Chairman and Protocol Committee head, respectively, in the PDP Campaign Council for the Bayelsa Governorship Elections.

We call on these prominent leaders to collaborate in the administration and governance of the state to fulfill the PDP’s campaign promises and sustain development.

We congratulate Senator Prince Ned Nwoko and PDP candidates from Delta Central and South Senatorial Districts on their well-deserved victory at the Tribunal. Deltans eagerly await their final victory at the appeal court.

Finally, we celebrate and commend Dr. Michael Nwoko, affectionately known as “The Political Oshobe,” for his exceptional and invaluable contributions throughout the electioneering process. His unwavering dedication and strategic involvement were pivotal in achieving our collective goals, and for that, we owe him a profound debt of gratitude. Hosting this meeting is just one of the many ways in which he has demonstrated his commitment to our cause.

Long Live Delta State!!
Long Live the Federal Republic of Nigeria!!!

_COMMUNIQUE ISSUED BY SENATOR NED NWOKO LGA AND WARD COORDINATORS AT THE END OF A CRUCIAL MEETING HELD IN IDUMUJE-UGBOKO, ANIOCHA NORTH LGA ON SUNDAY 24TH SEPTEMBER, 2023.

Prince Ned Munir Nwoko is a British trained Lawyer

Prince Ned Munir Nwoko is a British trained Lawyer.

Born on December 21, 1960, into the Idumuje-Ugboko Royal family in Aniocha North Local Government Area of Delta State, Prince Nwoko attended the University of Keele in Staffordshire, United Kingdom. Here he acquired his Bachelor’s degree in Law and History.

He then obtained an LLM in Maritime and Commercial Law from King’s College, London. He was subsequently called to the English Bar at Lincoln’s Inn.

Prince Nwoko later qualified as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. He then set up his own firm, Ned Nwoko Solicitors and became the Principal Partner and Senior Consultant.

At the zenith of his practice, his organisation had over 30 Lawyers in his employ and gained international acclaim for its meticulous and tenacious legal battles for financial probity, transparency, management and verification of foreign debts of third world countries and their component states.

The firm was renowned for its legal and consultancy work for several African and Asian governments in interstate and inter-government work and relationships in democratic settings are therefore a familiar terrain.

Prince Nwoko and his firm won global acclaim when he took some banks to court in Uk Paris and Geneva in what was a test case on behalf of some states in Nigeria who were said to be indebted to Paris and the London Club group of lenders

Senator Ned Nwoko

He initiated discussions with the Nigerian government on the need to reconcile and verify our foreign loans that eventually culminated in the exit from the foreign loans.

He engaged with the Federal government resulting in the acceptance by the Obasanjo government to reimburse the state governments to the value of 20% in full and final settlement for their claims for refund on the Paris and London Club Debt Buy-Back.

Prince Ned Nwoko persuaded reluctant state governments to accept the Federal government offer and pursue the balance subsequently as the law was in their favour. This was what eventually played out as the state governments accepted the informed advice of the incisive counsel.

In 2009, following Nigeria’s exit from the foreign obligations he was engaged in a class action at the Federal High court, Abuja, by all the states in pursuit of their refunds from over deductions. The Federal Government settled out of court leading to a total refund of over US$10billion to all the states.

His Nigerian firm, Linas International Limited, was equally engaged by the 774 Local Government Areas and following various court judgements in Linas’ favour, the federal government has refunded over US$3billion to the Local Government Areas.

Prince Nwoko returned to Nigeria in 1998, contested and won the election into the Federal House of Representatives as a member representing Aniocha and Oshimili Federal Constituency of Delta State. He remained a member of the legislative house till 2003.

As a member of the House, he sponsored 22 bills. Some of these bills are still being implemented today. They include :

National Minimum Wage Bill 1999
A bill for an Act to standardize allowances and fringe benefits payable to public/government officials– Monetization Bill.
A bill for an Act to establish public funds recovery and reward commission ( Whistle blowing )
In 2019, Prince Nwoko contested for the Delta North Senatorial election .
In the complex litigations that followed the election, he won at the High Court but the Appeal and Supreme Courts voided his initial victory.
Beyond his manifest strides in legal practice and politics, Prince Nwoko has interests in aviation, real estate and agriculture.
He is the Chairman of Project Tourism which his company, Linas International Limited launched in collaboration with the Nigerian Tourism Development Corporation, NTDC to project Nigeria’s tourism and cultural endowments through profitable creative projects.
Prince Nwoko is the founder of the proposed first sports university in Africa, STARS, an acronym for Sports, Technology, Arts and Research Sciences. STARS, with structures now nearing completion, would in Prince Nwoko’s vision address the critical issue of Nigeria’s increasing poor performances in international competitions through internationally financed trainings abroad for its sports students and administrators. STARS also delineates Prince Nwoko’s yearning and zeal for the education of sports men and those working in the sports arena in Nigeria .
In January, 2020, his Foundation, Ned Nwoko Foundation, launched the Malaria Eradication Project, a mision to eliminate malaria in Nigeria and Africa in general beginning with waste management , sanitation and vaccine development.
To flag off this project , Prince Nwoko made a symbolic, audacious expedition to the Antarctica where he planted the Nigerian flag. He, consequently, became the first black man to visit the South Pole and thus put Nigeria’s name on the global map, a feat that reverberated across the globe.
Prince Nwoko is a passionate and committed philanthropist. Through his Foundation, he has given scholarships to hundreds of indigent students across the country, sponsoring skill acquisition programmes and youth empowerment initiatives while growing the economy of the village market women through provision of petty trading funds. His philanthropy cuts across education, tourism, sports , human capital development and agriculture.
For his benevolent financial support for Nigeria’s creative industry, Nollywood, he was made a Patron of both the Actors Guild of Nigeria , AGN and Association of Movie Producers, Nigeria, AMP.
The Federal University of Petroleum, Effurun, Delta state, awarded him an Honourary Doctorate degree for his ” uncommon philanthropy, service and integrity “. He also received additional Honourary awards from the University of Ibadan and the Delta State University for his phenomenal charity. The Commonwealth University College in Belize bestowed on him an Honorary Doctorate degree while he was also placed on a pedestal of honour in 2019 as Human Rights Champion of the Decade by Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria for sponsoring bills that promote human rights including the National Public Funds Recovery and Reward bill that gave birth to the whistle blowing policy in the fight against corruption in Nigeria. These were in addition to several local and international awards bestowed on him for his humanitarian ventures, an untrammelled integrity and a rare passion to touch those on the lower rung of the economic ladder.
Prince Ned Nwoko, with doubt, is a man in the theatre of time. His political trek is yet unfinished.

IF YOU PANIC LIKE THIS, BECAUSE YOU LOST YOUR PHONE, HOW CAN YOU BE EXPECTED TO MANAGE A LEADERSHIP CRISIS, LIKE THE SITUATION IN NIGER?”- Reno Omokri Berates Obi

Former Presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has seized on the recent incident involving Peter Obi’s stolen phone at the Presidential Petition Tribunal as an opportunity to question Obi’s leadership skills.

In a stinging critique, Omokri took to social media to question Obi’s reaction to the unexpected theft amidst his legal challenge against President Tinubu’s victory. Captured on video, Obi appeared visibly flustered as he communicated his predicament to vice-presidential candidate, Baba Datti Ahmed.

Omokri, always a vibrant voice in political commentary, drew parallels between the stolen phone incident and the recent political unrest in Niger. He challenged Obi, suggesting that the level of panic displayed over a stolen phone raised questions about his ability to manage a leadership crisis

Omokri wrote, “If you panic like this because you lost your phone, how can you be expected to manage a leadership crisis, like the situation in Niger?

EA COMMUNICATIONS POSITION BE ZONED TO ANOTHER SENATORIAL DISTRICT – OGHENESIVBE

Distinguished Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Information and Strategy Management, CIISM, and Full Member of the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, NIIA, Dr Fred Latimore Oghenesivbe Esq, has suggested that the position of Executive Assistant on Communications be zoned to another Senatorial District in Delta State.

The renowned communication strategist in a statement on Friday and made available to newsmen in Asaba, disclosed that the state governor, Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, offered him the position of EA Communications, but he is of the opinion that the position should be zoned to another Senatorial District after Delta Central occupied the office for six years during Okowa administration.

Oghenesivbe said he served sufficiently for six years in that capacity, and not willing to do another term of four years in that same office, making a total of 10 years without elevation or promotion.

He urged governor Oborevwori to reflect on his roles in the media space during the just concluded general elections and do the needful.

“I wish to, once again, congratulate my dear friend and brother, Elder Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, over his new status as governor of Delta State. I am very happy for him. God be praised.

“I want to believe without any iota of doubt that there are other eminently qualified Deltans who can function and even function more effectively as EA Communications.

“In my candid opinion, the EA Communications position should be zoned to another Senatorial District to enable other qualified persons occupy the office, going forward.

“I am willing and available to serve in this administration, but certainly not as EA Communications. Everybody in life pray to make substantial progress in his or her career, and I am also praying to make progress in my political and communication career.

“Governor Oborevwori should count on my unalloyed support, commitment and loyalty as we join hands together to Advance Delta, through the instrumentality of the M.O.R.E Agenda.

“I urge the good people of Delta State, to continue to pray for the wellbeing of the governor, and equally give him the necessary support, so as to enable him deliver on his electionering campaigns promises,” Oghenesivbe said.
